What is Frosh Week and is it mandatory for my child to attend?
Frosh week is an opportunity for your child to immerse themself in their university life by becoming oriented to campus, making friends and learning more about what the university can offer them. This event is NOT mandatory but is strongly recommended as it provides them with opportunities that will help them acclimate throughout the year.
How will my child’s safety be ensured during Frosh Week activities?
Every safety consideration has been accounted for and each event further approved by the York University Risk Management team. There will also be a certified first aider at each event along with a mental health first aider. There will also be many other safety precautions in place such as security guards at certain events, travel back teams who will walk first years to designated points on campus and GoSafe which will drive students to certain locations, such as the subway.
Are meals or snacks provided during Frosh Week activities?
There will be snacks provided and three meals spaced throughout the week. We do encourage students to bring cash or their own lunch throughout the week.Are there any events that involve alcohol, and how are they supervised?Alcohol is strictly prohibited, this is a DRY week. Students who have been caught drinking during any events will have their wristband cut and will no longer be allowed to participate in the week.
What types of activities are planned throughout the week?
There are a variety of activities that suit a variety of different interests and abilities. Moreover, all of the activities center around fostering friendships, community, orienting students to the school and preparing them for this new chapter of their life.
How much does Frosh Week cost, and what is included in the fee?
Calumet’s Frosh week costs $160, with the price decreasing every day. However, we do recommend coming at the beginning of the week to ensure that you are getting the most out of your week and money. This fee covers the entry cost of ALL events hosted throughout the week and also includes a frosh kit which has the mandatory shirt and wristband, a lanyard, water bottle, and several other items that promote student health and wellness
Will my child be staying on campus or traveling off-site during any events?
The majority of events will be held on campus with the exception of a few supervised and safeguarded external events. To check where an event is, please refer to the legend and colour coding of the calendar.
What should my child bring with them for Frosh Week?
Your child should bring any medications or healthcare items they may need as well as items such as sunscreen or sun safety gear. If your child is staying in one of the commuter rooms, ensure that they bring personal hygiene and a change of clothes (depending on how amny nights they will be staying). We also recommend bringing any sleeping items you may need such as a sleeping bag and pillow.
Can parents attend any part of Frosh Week?
Parents are welcome to attend academic orientation with their child but the rest of Frosh is reserved for first years so they can better foster relationships with peers.
What are the check-in and check-out procedures for Frosh Week?
Check-in typically happens on the first day of Orientation Week. Check-in consists of students picking up their O’Week kits, wristbands, shirts, and any other materials they’ll need for the week. Please note that your child will have to bring a piece of government issued ID when checking-in for the first time. You’ll receive details ahead of time about the location and time. Make sure to bring ID and waivers that are requested in advance.
Is Frosh Week inclusive and accessible for students with disabilities or accommodations?
Yes! If your child requires any sort of accommodations, please have them email us at calfrosh@gmail.com so we can connect them with Student Accessibility Services and ensure we’re meeting their needs. We have also designed alternate and parallel events to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in an activity that works for them!
How can I stay informed or get updates during Frosh Week?

What kind of supervision is provided during overnight or late-night events?
All events, including late-night ones, are supervised by trained Orientation Week Leaders. There is always a clear chain of support, including Captains, Leaders, Orientation Chairs, and Campus Staff/Security, with emergency protocols in place. Safety is the top priority during all events and activities.
What should I do if my child has allergies or medical conditions?
You should fill out the necessary information sheets about allergies that can be found on our website (LINK HERE) and ensure that your child has any medications or pieces of medical equipment they might need.
